Community garden Helle Oase
With our community garden „Bürgergarten Helle Oase“, a large neighbourhood project was created in 2012 that is accessible to everyone and meets the interests of many target groups. In addition to a colourful garden, which was planned according to permaculture principles and is managed by volunteers, we maintain a children's playground with elements for the little ones, as well as various exercise and sports facilities. A neighbourhood workshop for handicrafts and building offers help for self-help, and family and friends come together at the fireplace and barbecue area.
For the neighbourhood: Anyone who is interested in gardening and repairing, community and socialising can take part. Community garden times are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm, when guests can simply join in. Our open knitting group meets on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 noon. Workshops are held regularly in the garden and in the outdoor kitchen, which are open to everyone and generally free of charge. Information can be found in the event programme. The barbecue can be booked for private parties at weekends.
For daycare centres, schools and other groups: The garden offers good opportunities for environmental education and experiencing nature for nursery children and schoolchildren from the first grade upwards. Enquiries for environmental and gardening workshops are very welcome here. Biologists and adventure educators organise a wide range of events tailored to the target group and individual needs.

Arson in the Community garden
We need your help!
Unbelievably, in the early hours of 11 April, our Tiny House in the Hellen Oase burnt down completely. The police and we cannot rule out arson. Anyone familiar with our community garden will know that this was the centrepiece of our shared gardening adventure, with a kitchen, chooks and seed store. There is nothing left of the contents except the skeleton of the coffee machine, fridge and oven. We are completely devastated and face the great challenge of having the remains professionally removed and somehow building something new. At this point we need your support! We have launched a fundraising campaign via Gofundme and ask you, if you can, to make a small or large donation to help us dispose of the ruins of the fire:

The Helle Oase community garden at Tangermünder Straüe 127-129 has been in existence since 2012, when the KIDS & CO association began a large-scale cooperation project to turn the derelict site into what it is today in a participatory process with residents and young people from various organisations. In addition to the community garden, we built a children's playground and small sports facilities. The latest project is a forest garden that is being created on the site. Over the years, many parties, workshops, family celebrations and hiking days have taken place. The Tiny House, which has now been burnt down, was built in summer 2021 with interested parties from all over Berlin. All events, projects and materials are funded by grants and donations. As far as possible, the offers are free of charge for the users in order to enable participation for everyone. In this way, we have succeeded and continue to succeed in reaching a wide variety of people and bringing them into contact with each other. We see ourselves as a place of neighbourhood and a free space for engagement.
We hope that you can support us in this difficult situation and thank you very much for your efforts!
Forests for Hellersdorf
duration: 30.05.2024 UNTIL 31.05.2027
Together, we are creating climate islands in the district to make our neighbourhood more liveable and lovable. To do this, we plant small forests that provide us with better air, shade, pleasant temperatures even in midsummer, fresh air and a cosy atmosphere.
Everyone can join in and transform our meadow orchard into a productive edible forest garden. Fruit trees, berry bushes, herbs and vegetables alternate here and produce apples, plums, mulberries, potatoes, cabbage, herbs and much more in a small space. The challenge? Our soil. We work on concrete gravel. A challenge? Yes. An obstacle? No. A new field for research and experimentation? By all means! Be part of it, join in and observe with us whether and how nature copes with this extreme urban problem.
Similar problems, but a different solution: we plant a nano-forest in the neighbourhood. On 50 to 100 square metres, a dense, site-specific, species-rich mini forest is being created that purifies our air and provides a home for animals and plants. Here, too, we are happy to welcome people who want to accompany and support us. Get in touch with us, because there is a lot to do!
„Forests for Hellersdorf“ is financed with funds from the Lotto Foundation Berlin.
Our workshop is equipped with many tools that make it possible to work with wood, metal, textiles, colours, etc. During our gardening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm, we are happy to open the workshop for you by arrangement so that you can repair, build and tinker. If possible, we will also provide you with technical support. Please let us know at least one week in advance.
