Democracy education for child and youth work professionals
Our project to strengthen and raise awareness among child and youth work professionals (and beyond) in their day-to-day work in dealing with anti-democratic and extreme right-wing statements and actions has been running since the beginning of September 2024.
To this end, the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing has created a coordination centre - which is being filled by KIDS & CO. The action area includes the Hellersdorfer Promenade neighbourhood management area. Through strong networking in the neighbourhood, the knowledge gained regarding right-wing extremist tendencies within the institutions is to be passed on and secured in the long term.
A four-part training course entitled ‘Acting confidently and democratically’ is being launched, which is aimed specifically at educational professionals from schools, independent organisations and leisure facilities in the Hellersdorfer Promenade neighbourhood management area.
The starting point is current challenges such as extreme right-wing statements by young people, the increasing visibility of right-wing extremist youth organisations and growing social tensions.
Based on the feedback from the ‘Active against the right’ symposium and a digital needs survey, four modules were developed that provide practical strategies and tools for dealing with anti-democratic tendencies and create space for dialogue and networking. The following modules were created:
Workshop series ‘You, me, us, everyone’
• You - extreme right-wing world of experience
• Me - Attitude and argumentation training
• We - mission statement and protection concept in the organisation
• All - Legal options and support systems
The first dates for the workshop series have now been finalised - we are now accepting new registrations! Thanks to funding from the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing, participation is free of charge. As the modules build on each other, participation in the entire series is desirable. If it is not possible to attend individual dates, please let us know in good time.

The aim is to help counteract extreme right-wing tendencies and political resignation by strengthening the attitude of professionals in their work with young people and making them more confident in their actions. In this way, the project prevents violence and promotes opportunities. The topic of democratic education is structurally anchored in the work with children and young people. This supports the integration of all population groups and strengthens cohesion in the neighbourhood.
The project runs until 31.12.2026. KIDS & CO is looking forward to good cooperation with the stakeholders in the neighbourhood!
